Autumn is all about mushroom picking for the majority of Lithuanian population who can walk or crawl on their own to the nearest woods. Then a hunt for boletus, honey fungi, Saffron milk caps and other edible ‘shroom begin.Unlike many others I’m not that into ‘shrooms myself. Oh, eating them is one thing. I’ve nothing against eating ’em. But I really do not enjoy picking ’em, and I enjoy the whole clean the ‘shrooms part even less. So I just stick to this whole eat all you can get, but don’t do the actual picking stuff and it works just perfectly. But since autumn ain’t autumn without some ‘shrooms, I give you a photo-shroom of sorts 😉

While sometimes world may seem grey, in twilight's grey all the colors are hidden. Learning to find those colors is like making a collage from many and many scraps - it may seem hard, pieces might not fit at the first glance, but that scraps come together in the end. If you enjoy what you find, don't be shy.

It was wonderful taking a walk in the woods with you! I wish I knew what half those mushrooms were. I LOVE going mushroom hunting – for us, it is hunting, as there aren’t as many as you have over there. Thanks for the outing 🙂

That’s a bonus of life on the edge of the forest – technically a city, but just like 10 minutes of slow walk brings you to real nice forest 😉 Though I must confess that this does not help with my knowledge of mushrooms – I know my boletus, chanterelle, honey fungus, and just a few more of them edible ‘shrooms, though were are so many of them. But for me the rest for me are just that – toadstools, for often quite eye catching. Just as my dad used to teach me about mushroom picking, if you’re not 100 percent sure if the fungus you’ve found is edible, treat it as a toadstool and leave it be. And since it’s been like years since I last actually did some real mushroom picking, my knowledge on good ones is now indeed very very limited

Ooooh! Love the picking, used to go with my Dad every year. Hate the cleaning, though, urgh! Count me in for the eating part 🙂 …as long as you leave out the fly agaric… as pretty as it is 😉

I’ve picked only one single mushroom during this whole photo-shrooming, so no worries there’s no risk of anyone getting poisoned. While some people love the picking, I’m more on enjoying the sights side here. All the picking was done by my friend who was actually after some serious shrooms while I was having a blast with my camera 🙂

God they are ugly-looking things 😉 Mushrooms freak me out, in case you didn’t know!

good thing that I’ve added some photos of not-shroom thingies then 😉 Is this Latvian residue feeling towards fungus, or were shrooms on your black list even before that?

Even before that 😉 I always thought they were creepy!
